New SEL-3021 Serial Encrypting Transceivers Secure Vital Communications to Protect Against Cyber Attacks

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. (SEL) announces the SEL-3021 Serial Encrypting Transceiver, designed specifically to protect existing and new communications links between power control centers, electrical substations, and generating plants.

The SEL-3021 has low latency, making it ideal for systems that require time-critical communication, such as SCADA, metering, and protection. This "bump-in-the-wire" solution allows easy installation in existing links.

The SEL-3021 is designed to meet Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 security requirements. It meets or surpasses utility and industrial environmental requirements.

SEL offers unmatched local technical support, a worldwide, ten-year product warranty, and a commitment to help you make electric power safer, more reliable, and more economical. For more information visit www.selinc.com/secure.

MGE Introduces Commercial Surge Suppression Products to Complement UPS Product Line

MGE UPS SYSTEMS INC. has introduced the comprehensive Eclipse-T family of commercial transient voltage surge suppression (TVSS) equipment as a complement to its popular line of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). Most models include a convenient surge counter (excluding the E-T100W) and a LightningTemp ® fuse (except “BP” models) for added reliability and to prevent thermal runaway if MOVs are damaged. SineWave Tracker™ circuitry on models below 250kA suppresses transients closer to the sine wave for improved equipment protection. Specified models are available in NEMA3R enclosures suitable for outdoor or ruggedized installations.

All models include a 10-year limited warranty and meet or exceed international standards for safety and performance.

AEMC Introduces 10A Micro-Ohmmeter

The 10A Micro-Ohmmeter Model 6250 is a rugged, low resistance tester designed for both plant maintenance and field use.  Utilizing a four-lead Kelvin method of testing, the Model 6250 is the most accurate Micro-Ohmmeter
available, with results within 0.05%.

The Model 6250 is uniquely designed to conduct tests on both resistive and inductive material, with operator selection directly from the front panel. Three test modes are available: resistive (instantaneous test), inductive
(continuous test), and auto (repetitive tests).  Up to 1500 measurements can be stored and printed directly to a printer or from a PC.

Molded Case Circuit Breakers Offer UL 489 Listed Performance

AutomationDirect has introduced a line of Cutler-Hammer’s Molded Case Circuit Breakers (MCCBs) that offers UL489 listed performance for branch circuit overcurrent protection and disconnecting means. The circuit breakers’ small size saves panel space, compared to standard breakers or comparable fusible devices. The MCCBs use patented contact conductor designs featuring high-speed “blow-open” action that results in superior performance when high level fault currents produce extraordinary electromechanical forces. They also feature advanced arc extinguishing technology, and a toggle handle that provides three positions (on/off/tripped) along with visual indicators. A line of accessories is also available for the MCCBs.

Transtar Products Introduces Generator Self-Test Verifier

Daniel Bollin, President of Transtar Products, recently announced the introduction of a new, UL approved, patent pending product designed to evaluate and report the results of the regular exercise process undergone by backup electrical generators.

The new device, dubbed the “GSV”, for Generator Self-Test Verifier, verifies that the generator has started, that the generated voltage is within a +/- 10% tolerance window, and has continued to operate for a minimum of two minutes.

The GSV is able to report a failed test by sounding an audible alarm and closing a set of contacts (interfacing with a security system) or by directly reporting to a central monitoring agency via telephone line or wireless connection when used with an optional reporting module.

The device is able to monitor all possible voltages and phase configurations. It is mounted to the transfer switch, requiring 120VAC power.

The device will be formally introduced at the October NECA trade show in Los Angeles.
