New Multi-Technology Occupancy Sensor Wall Switch Offers Highly-Accurate "Install and Forget" Performance

Leviton's new OSSMT-MD Multi-Technology Wall Switch Occupancy Sensor combines infrared and ultrasonic technology for highly accurate occupancy detection with minimal false triggering. The sensor features self-adaptive technology that compensates for real-time occupancy patterns to provide trouble free "install and forget" performance for maximum energy savings and convenience. The OSSMT-MD replaces a standard box-mounted single-pole switch and is ideal for a variety of commercial applications including private and executive offices, training and conference rooms, classrooms, storage areas, restrooms and lounges.

The OSSMT-MD uses PIR (infrared) sensing to detect motion and turn lights ON and both PIR and US (ultrasonic) sensing to keep the lights ON while the area is occupied. PIR sensing provides immunity to false tripping and US sensing provides maximum sensitivity and range. This combination increases the accuracy of the OSSMT-MD in irregular shaped or partitioned rooms where PIR technology alone would not be effective. The sensor also features energy-saving "walk-through" sensing that will automatically turn lights OFF 2-1/2 minutes after momentary occupancy. Additional features include ambient light override to keep lights OFF when there is adequate natural lighting, adjustable field-of-view blinders and a convenient pushbutton for manual ON/OFF switching at any time.

The OSSMT-MD is rated 800W incandescent and 1200VA for magnetic low-voltage and fluorescent lighting at 120V AC, and 2700VA fluorescent at 277V AC. It can be used with magnetic or electronic ballasts and features true zero-crossing switching to ensure maximum relay life and compatibility with electronic ballasts. The OSSMT is part of Leviton's integrated energy management control offering that includes Leviton occupancy sensors, timers, dimmers and photocells, as well as Centura Daylight Harvesting systems and Architectural Lighting Control Systems. MGE Significantly Reduces the Entry Cost to Scalable Power Protection withNew Pulsar MX 5000 RT UPS

MGE UPS SYSTEMS has launched the first building block of its Pulsar MX Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system that is quickly scaleable from 5kVA to 20kVA. This new system provides network administrators and facility managers an economical and flexible solution to protecting their growing networks. The new Pulsar MX 5000 RT UPS offers a .9 power factor delivering 4500 watts of power, built-in redundancy capabilities, hot swappable batteries and power modules, along with integrated output receptacles for true plug-and-play functionality.

Designed to deliver the highest level of protection for 20 to 110 servers, the online double-conversion Pulsar MX UPS uses modular redundant architecture that can easily scale power and runtime as demand increases or when users require higher levels of availability. Using only 3U (5.25 inch high) for the combination of power and battery sub-modules, users can configure the new units as freestanding tower or rack-mounted systems. When connected in parallel within the Pulsar Frame modular chassis (to be introduced in the Fall of '06), the Pulsar MX sub-modules can be readily scaled to 10, 15 (with redundancy) or 20kVA power levels; without disrupting connected equipment; all within the Pulsar's compact 16U frame. With up to 18kW, this scalable solution provides the highest power density in the industry. For the first time, the same power and battery sub-modules can be used for both the standalone UPS and the modular chassis, which significantly reduces the entry cost to scalability for the end user. Through this innovative approach, the user can decide to acquire a cost-competitive Pulsar MX 5000 RT, and then migrate later to a fully scalable, redundant solution using the Pulsar Frame while still using the original power and battery sub-modules of the original 5kVA standalone UPS. With built-in network manageability, the Pulsar MX systems are ideal for protecting high-performance workstations and servers in operation-critical server and network rooms. The 5kVA compact unit features front access hot-swappable battery and power sub-modules, auto battery-test, multilingual LCD display and intuitive power management software. For extended backup time, users can add external battery modules to achieve up to two hours of runtime. To help preserve battery life, the Pulsar MX 5000 RT units accept wide input voltage and frequency ranges to avoid using the batteries unnecessarily. Standard internal bypass assures added reliability by supplying utility power to connected equipment in the event of a UPS fault.

The Pulsar MX 5000 RT model includes USB and serial ports for communication with included power management and supervision software for current Windows operating systems as well as several versions of UNIX, Linux, Macintosh, Novell and legacy Windows OS. In addition, the UPS is compatible with MGE's sophisticated Enterprise Power Management software and Network Shutdown Module for monitoring UPSs across the network.

Through MGE's PowerServices(TM), the UPS is fully protected by a two-year guarantee including the batteries. The Pulsar MX 5000 RT meets worldwide standards for safety and performance including UL and cUL and holds the CE mark for overseas markets. For more information visit www.mgeups.com/us.

Gardner Bender Introduces the Smarter, Easier-to-Use B2000 Cycline™ Conduit Bender

Gardner Bender redesigned the B2000 Cyclone® electric conduit bender, a single shoe, single unit solution, to reduce the time, resources and fatigue involved in making repeatable bends for EMT, IMC, RIGID ½”-2” conduit and ½”-1 ½” PVC Coated Rigid Aluminum.

A new circuit board with diagnostics makes the re-engineered Cyclone the only powered conduit bender to diagnose problems during power-up or operation, expediting maintenance and repair. This built-in intelligence includes a circuit verification phase at power-up, checking the complete electrical system for failures before use to ensure proper operation.

The Cyclone’s ergonomic pendant control design allows one-hand operation. Its push button membrane and power indicator lights enable the user to comfortably guide the conduit during the bend with one hand.

The revamped Cyclone offers five features that directly contribute to improved productivity on-the-job for the electrical contractor:

  1. Minimum set-up and change-over times: One shoe fits all conduit types and sizes, eliminating loose or misplaced parts.
  2. Horizontal or vertical working positions: For comfortable table-top bending or accurate offsets in tight spaces.
  3. Fast, accurate automatic bending: Dial in the angle for an automatic bend in 8 to 12 seconds, depending on pipe size. Conduit ejects easily.
  4. Effortless job site maneuverability: A compact four-wheel frame assembly easily clears doorways and rough terrain with larger 10” front wheels and rear caster style wheels.

5. Minimal training time: Self contained design includes one-piece support roller housing and fixed conduit clamps. Set-up and bending instructions are printed on the bender shoe for easy reference.

The B2000 Cyclone conduit bender is available through STAFDA Distributors (Specialty Tools and Fasteners Distributor Association), Evergreen Marketing Group Distributors and tool houses.
