Pentadyne Earns ISO-9001 Quality Management Certification

Pentadyne Power Corporation recently announced that it was granted certification to the ISO-9001:2000 standard of quality systems management.

The ISO 9000 category has become an internationally renowned reference for quality management requirements in business-to-business dealings, a system of quality management developed by the International Organization for Standardization. ISO 9001:2000 provides a model for quality of product development, design, testing and production.

"The ISO auditing process scrutinizes virtually every aspect of a manufacturing business,” said Pentadyne President & CEO Mark McGough. "ISO certification confirms to our customers, our investors, and ourselves that the processes we use and continue to improve upon lead to the creation of an exceptionally reliable, high-quality product. ISO ensures clarity in product development, consistency in production, and assurance to our customers that our product meets and exceeds their performance expectations from the day it is delivered through many years of around-the-clock operation.”

Fluke 1760 Offers Full Class A Compliance for Advanced Power QUality Analysis and Compliance Testing Applications

Fluke Corporation recently announced the Fluke 1760 Three-Phase Power Quality
Recorder. Providing full compliance to the IEC 61000-4-30 Class-A standard,
the Fluke 1760 is designed for advanced testing and analysis of utility and industrial
power distribution systems in medium- and low-voltage networks.

The Fluke 1760 gives users the flexibility to customize thresholds, algorithms
and measurement selections for custom analysis and reporting. It provides comprehensive analysis of a broad range of parameters including rms values, flicker, voltage dips, voltage swells, voltage unbalance, current and voltage harmonics to the 50th order, interharmonics, THD, mains signaling, reactive power, transients, and power factor.

It features GPS time synchronization, which enables users to correlate data precisely with specific events or data sets from multiple instruments, and can provide detail of even the shortest event with its 10 MHz, 6000 Vpk waveform capture. It has a 2 GB internal compact flash memory to enable detailed,
simultaneous recording of several power parameters over long periods of time,
and includes an internal battery that maintains power for up to 40 minutes in the
event of a power supply failure or outage. Data can be transferred to a computer directly through an integrated ethernet network, even while the instrument
continues to record.

The Fluke 1760 includes PQ Analyze software, which is designed for detailed
power quality analysis and report generation. In the online function, the software
enables remote instrument setup, job processing, real-time verification of actual
measurement values, and data download. Data can be viewed as trend diagrams for root cause analysis or as statistical summaries in a variety of formats.

Designed for quick and convenient setup, the Fluke 1760 automatically detects, con- figures and powers the current and voltage probes when they are plugged into the instrument. It features a fully-insulated housing and no rotating components, resulting in reliable operation under even the most rugged conditions. For more information, visit www.fluke.com.

Tyco Grants Royalty-Based Technology to Astec Power
Astec to Use Tyco's Technology in Isolated Converter 16th-Brick and 8th- Brick Products

Tyco Power Systems”) recently announced that they have entered into a
royalty-based technology licensing agreement with Astec Power (Astec) that
will allow Astec Power and its affiliates to use patented Tyco Power Systems
technology in their current designs for their isolated converter eighth-brick and
sixteenth-brick families of power modules. This agreement, which currently extends
for the life of the patents, will benefit customers by allowing them to
receive Astec’s power modules supported by patented technology from Tyco
Power Systems.

This valuable technology (U.S. Pat. Re. 36571 and a number of related patents) is designed to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of self-synchronized
rectifiers for application to clamped-mode power converters. Previously, efficiency had been limited because of the nature of switching boost converters and the variability of the transformer reset voltages in the forward type converters.

By introducing a hybrid rectifier with a MOSFET rectifying device, Tyco Power
Systems enhanced the efficiency of the rectifier, thereby increasing the efficiency
and effectiveness of the manufactured power converters.

“We are pleased that Tyco Power Systems’ technology will be used in Astec
products,” stated Roger Stonecipher, vice president, Tyco Electronics Power Systems, Inc. “We are continuously trying to strengthen our position in the marketplace with technology and innovations that will benefit our customers.”
“This agreement allows us to maintain the outstanding level of product availability
and support that our customers rely upon,” added Pam Jackson, Vice President
and General Manager of DC-DC Business for Astec Power. “We are pleased to have reached an agreement with Tyco Electronics Power Systems, Inc.”
