The New MIT400 Series of 1-kV Insulation and Continuity Testers

Megger introduces a family of eight insulation testers that meet the most stringent requirements for installation, maintenance, service and repair in the electrical, power and telecommunications industries. The units conform to IEC1010-2 for Category IV 600V applications. The instruments feature Megger’s patented dual digital and analog arc displays showing both measurement result and the actual test voltage being delivered simultaneously.

The new MIT400 Series offer test voltages from 10 to 1000 V, and includes a special user-selectable 10 V to 100 V in 1 V increments tester for low voltage insulation testing requirements. The units include an insulation resistance measurement range that extends from 20 Gigohms to 200 Gigohms, with the option to display the insulation test voltage or leakage current on the secondary display. Measurement of cable distance by capacitance is featured on two of the units.

Timed insulation testing for PI and DAR testing is available on certain models. A 200 mA continuity measurement is available with a 0.01-ohm resolution for fast accurate cable resistance measurement. This can be set to 20 mA where conformity to electrical testing regulations is not required.

TRMS voltage measurement allows accurate measurement on noisy lines providing a wide range of measurement applications.

The top-of-the-range models include data storage and download capability.

A free calibration certificate is included with each unit, greatly reducing costly instrument adjustments. The instruments are sealed to IP54 providing a weatherproof case to lessen the chance of water ingress.

Cooper B-Line’s Flip Clip

Cooper B-Line’s Flip Clip is the fastest, most inexpensive way to securely hang and level wire basket trays in commercial facilities, which saves contractors and installers time and money. The Flip Clip can be used with 1/4” and 3/8” threaded rods, eliminating the need for multiple clip sizes and guaranteeing the right hanger for the right job, every time. The Flip Clip requires only one nut and one tool for installation, reducing material costs. Similar methods require at least two nuts, two tools and sometimes even two washers to secure a hanger. Wire basket installations with Flip Clip are simple – place the nut onto a threaded rod, slide the clip onto the rod, hang the wire basket on the hooks and adjust the nut for leveling. Bend two tabs with a screwdriver or pliers – securing the clip to the basket and to the rod – and the job is done. For more information, visit www.cooperbline.com/flipclip

XTL Panels Supply Vital Power in the OR

The use of lasers and X-rays is a common practice in today’s operating rooms.  The XTL panel by PG LifeLink supplies vital, safe power to this equipment with a special design that energizes with one simple motion, locking power on until a procedure is complete.

Many existing OR power supplies cannot handle simultaneous X-ray or laser procedures and older panels may carry the risk of being accidentally shut off.  By upgrading to an XTL panel, these problems are solved with a unique design that prevents the overloading of power systems and accidental shutoff.

Power for each outlet is controlled through a series of contactors.  The Plug Control power panel option energizes by simply opening a door over the receptacle on the panel; this locks the power on until someone in the OR unplugs it.

The XTL’s Plug Control option with lockout can limit the number of energized outlets, allowing the hospital to control how many laser procedures can be performed at one time with a maximum of four procedures.

Only the circuits in the rooms that are activated by the panel contribute to the system’s leakage.  Because power is selectively provided to the location where it is needed, multiple laser and x-ray machines can be energized through the corresponding module.  The unit can serve up to 12 locations.

Fire-Lite Introduces IPDACT, IP Communicator for Fire Alarm Panels

Fire-Lite Alarms introduces IPDACT, an IP communicator for fire alarm panels. The IPDACT communicator transmits information generated by a fire alarm control panel to a central station via the Internet. The IPDACT can utilize any Ethernet network connection such as ADSL, cable modem, and T1. Compatible with a majority of new Fire-Lite control panels, the IPDACT communicator allows for alarm transmissions of less than one second, which improves response time and minimizes costs.

The IPDACT communicator saves cost by not requiring a public IP address. Instead, it uses a DHCP client for automatic IP address configuration. While a standard telephone line from the fire alarm panel secondary dialer port is used as back up, the IPDACT communicator connects to the panel’s primary dialer port. For higher redundancy configurations, the system also supports dual destination central station receiver IP addresses. The IPDACT’s supervised line functionality is so fast it allows a central station to quickly detect any off-line alarm panels. The system uses Contact ID format but prior to transmission, the data is further encrypted with AES 512 bit data encryption, one of the highest known.

The IPDACT communicator reports to a compatible IP receiver that decrypts the data into standard contact ID and then sends the data to the central station software system. The new receiver uses a high performance embedded operating system for higher reliability and efficiency, is compatible with most all central station formats and supports up to 3,000 IPDACT accounts allowing seamless integration into the conventional central station architecture.
