New High-Speed Class RKI Product Line

Ferraz Shawmut announces the availability of its new High-Speed Class RK1 product line, designed to safeguard sensitive power electronics while meeting the National Electrical Code requirements for branch circuit protection and performing to the industry standards of a semiconductor fuse. The additional safeguards in the HSRK hybrid design result in leading cost effectiveness and a significant increase in safety.

In addition to generating cost effectiveness the HSRK fuse is the most current-limiting RK1 fuse on the market, creating a significantly safer worker environment.

Recent concern about electrical safety in industrial environments calls for more current-limiting fuses to be installed in electrical systems, reducing arc flash potential and the incident energy levels produced under fault conditions. The use of HSRK fuses can reduce incident energy levels enough to change the category of protective clothing that workers are required to wear while working on equipment in an energized state.

The larger RK body size and superior performance of the HSRK fuse under short circuit conditions make it ideal for plant and facility upgrades where arc flash issues are causing concern.

New Decora â Wall Switch Sensors Feature Occupancy and Vacancy Sensing with Convenient Nightlight Capabilities

The Lighting Management Systems Division’s new Decora â Wall Switch Sensors, available in occupancy sensing (Cat. No. OSSNL) and vacancy sensing (Cat. No. OSS10) models, incorporate a convenient LED nightlight in a single attractive, compact device. The LED nightlight uses a photocell to automatically illuminate a room or area based on the ambient light level present.

The Decora Wall Switch Occupancy Sensor uses passive infrared (PIR) detection technology to automatically switch lights ON once occupancy is detected within its field-of-view. This unit will then switch lights OFF after a user-specified time-OFF interval. Once manually switched on, the Decora Wall Switch Vacancy Sensor monitors a room or area for occupancy and automatically switches lighting OFF after a user-specified time-OFF interval once it no longer detects occupancy.

The Decora Wall Switch Vacancy Sensor is CEC Title 24 compliant. Both models are suitable for applications where automatic lighting control to achieve energy mandates or energy cost savings objectives are desirable.

Both models feature a 180-degree field-of-view with approximately 1,200’ of coverage. The devices provide “small motion” detection. The units are rated 120/277V and are compatible with electronic and magnetic ballasts and designed to fit standard wallboxes. Both units provide an adjustable LED nightlight that can be brightened and dimmed according to user-specified preferences. The LED nightlight function will be activated when ambient light levels drop to less than 1-foot candle and deactivated when the ambient light level exceeds 5-foot candles.

Both units meet UL, cUL and NOM certification and are CEC Title-24 compliant. The units are backed by Leviton’s Limited Five-Year Warranty. For more information, visit www.leviton.com.

Introducing the World’s First 100 VA Inherently Limited Class 2Transformer

Foster Transformer introduces the 100 VA SURVIVOR Class 2 transformer, the highest capacity inherently limited class 2 transformer in the world. This is the newest in the line of SURVIVOR series transformers with patented short circuit and overload protection which allow them to withstand a direct short circuit in excess of 15 days.

All SURVIVOR transformers, including the 100 VA model, are classified as Inherently Limited. This eliminates the need for external protection or the problematic internal fusing. It also extends the range of Class 2 transformers allowing them to be used in intermittent duty applications that would cause the fuses or circuit breakers used by other manufacturers to open. Elimination of external fusing lowers the installed cost and total cost of ownership of the product since no servicing of this protection is required. Field-replaceable fuses also include risks that field personnel may bypass the protection or install a larger fuse thereby defeating the protection and creating a safety hazard. SURVIVOR inherently limited transformers provide the protection without the costs or potential risks associated with external fusing.

Because they withstand overload conditions, SURVIVOR transformers can be sized for the average or continuous current load – this is a less expensive option than the specifying oversized transformers which are not “inherently limited” to handle in-rush at start-up or peak current draw. A single larger transformer can now replace multiple smaller transformers, streamlining production and curtailing inventory costs.

These innovative transformers can significantly lower warranty costs while increasing customer satisfaction, making them ideal for medical instruments, devices and applications, HVAC and refrigeration, control panels, appliance, vending, battery charger and other applications requiring a class 2 transformer.

The 100VA SURVIVOR model is available with either 60 Hz or 50/60 Hz ratings. Primary input voltages include 115 V, 115/230 V, and 200/230 V with 24V output. Each size/model includes UL Recognized Class 130 (B) insulation. IEC, EN and CE compliant designs are available. A full range of standard SURVIVOR models are available from 40 to 100VA. Alternate versions can be configured to meet specific customer requirements.
