Search Capability in Dexter + Chaney’s Forefront ™ Document Imaging Helps Contractors Find Documents Instantly

Contractors can find documents instantly in Dexter + Chaney’s Forefront ™ Construction Suite using a Google-like search capability in its Document Imaging module. Users can locate individual documents in their entire Forefront file system by entering any word or group of words. Forefront finds those words and lists each document that contains them, displayed by relevancy, and provides a link to open each one.

The key to Forefront Document Imaging’s instant-search capability is that information is already available and indexed in Forefront prior to a user’s search request. As an ongoing process, documents scanned into the Forefront database are automatically processed by optical character recognition (OCR) software that converts the scanned images to readable text. The text is then processed and indexed for searches using Microsoft’s SQL Server Full-Text search capability. This allows users to search by any word or combination of words contained in the documents.

Users can enter simple searches, such as “Highway 101 overpass drawings,” and quickly find all documents that contain this text. Advanced search options, such as “look for the exact phrase” and “exclude document with the words,” are also possible. The search encompasses TIF images, PDF files, Microsoft Office documents and other formats.

“In essence, Forefront Document Imaging finds and instantly displays an answer to the user’s request, based on a search that has already been performed prior to that request,” said John Chaney, Dexter + Chaney co-founder and president.

Forefront Document Imaging incorporates documents electronically into the construction company’s workflow. It addresses a typically painful problem for construction companies: giving management, operations and the financial department the fast access they need to important documents like AP invoices, change orders, payroll timecards, contracts, and others. More than 7,000 total users make use of Forefront’s Document Imaging.

“Many construction companies store tens or hundreds of thousands of documents in Forefront Document Imaging,” said Chaney. “The search capability is our response to customer requests for an efficient method to find the documents they need. Customers tell us that Forefront Document Imaging has really helped their businesses—the search capability just makes it better.”

Additional $7 Million Commitment to Provide Safe Electrical Systems for Thousands of Families Throughout North America

More than 200 Square D ® /Schneider Electric business leaders worked alongside Gautier, Miss., residents Jan. 30 to build houses and community spaces for one of Habitat for Humanity’s largest corporate site builds. The organization’s efforts kick off the Schneider Electric North American Operating Division 2007 Leadership Forum with a $7 million commitment to Habitat for Humanity over the next 4½ years. The funding will provide Habitat homes across North America with Square D brand electrical distribution equipment. Square D is the flagship brand of Schneider Electric in the United States for electrical distribution and industrial control products, systems and services.

Building three homes, a playground and a neighborhood pavilion in Gautier continues the Schneider Electric / Square D commitment to rebuilding the hurricane-ravaged Gulf Region and assisting Habitat for Humanity in its efforts to help low-income and hurricane-displaced families achieve homeownership.

The annual January Leadership Forum of the Schneider Electric North American Operating Division set the direction of the new business year for the company’s senior management team. This year, the forum was held in Biloxi, Miss., to underscore the organization’s Cornerstone Partner relationship with Habitat for Humanity and its commitment to employee involvement and service to the community. Using its senior leadership team as an example, the company wants to illustrate that in 2007, it will be on a “ Mission for the Community” as well as for its customers.

“The Gulf Region continues to feel the devastating effects of the 2005 hurricane season. Ongoing dedication to assisting and rebuilding this region is vital to restoring it to the thriving community it once was,” said Dave Petratis, president and CEO of the Schneider Electric North American Operating Division. “Square D and Schneider Electric are committed to acting after disaster strikes. In addition, our long-standing partnership with Habitat for Humanity helps us make a positive difference long after the storms have passed.”
