Emerson Network Power Extends Heat Rejection Product Line
with Energy-Efficient Liebert TCDV Condenser
Emerson Network Power recently introduced the Liebert TCDV, an air-cooled, direct-drive refrigeration condenser for use with Liebert precision cooling systems with dual refrigeration circuits, including the Liebert DS™.
The Liebert TCDV supports precision cooling units operating in a data center, or other controlled environment, by providing reliable and efficient heat rejection. Using a variable-frequency drive, the Liebert TCDV enables energy savings of up to 10% compared to the fan-speed condensers.
The factory-programmed VFD in the Liebert TCDV precisely controls the speed of the primary fan based on refrigerant pressure variations to maintain a consistent and efficient condensing temperature. Reliable pressure transducers sense these refrigerant pressure variations that result from changing outdoor ambients and compressor unloading common to digital scroll compressors in Liebert DS and semi-hermetic compressors with cylinder unloaders found in both the Liebert DS and Liebert Deluxe. The Liebert TCDV can maintain pressure control for outdoor ambient temperatures as low as -20F.
The new condenser also features transient voltage surge suppression (TVSS), which increases condenser reliability by protecting system electronics from damage from transient surges from unconditioned power sources and atmospheric discharges.
The Liebert DS is the first and only precision cooling system to use digital scroll compressors, which allow unit capacities to quickly adapt to changing room conditions, creating significant energy savings and better protection of business-critical applications. It can respond to changes as small as +/- 1 degree Fahrenheit and +/- 1 percent relative humidity.

Two New Ground Testers from Megger Offer a Unique Solution
to Ground Testing
Megger introduces two new four-terminal ground testers, the DET4TC and DET4TCR, to its established family of ground testing instruments. These new models include the ART (Attached Rod Technique) capability already found in Megger’s popular DET3TC, and add stakeless (clamp-on) testing capability for applications where traditional fall-of-potential testing is not possible. Other unique features of the DET4TC and DET4TCR include selectable output voltage (25 V or 50 V) and a 100 V CAT IV rating. The DET4TCR is powered by rechargeable batteries, while the DET4TC uses disposable batteries.
The DET4TC and DET4TCR are shipped complete with stakes and leads in a hard-pack carrying case, giving the end user everything needed to begin testing. These units can also be purchased in kit form (DET4TC+KIT and DET4TCR+KIT). The kits include the voltage and current clamps needed to perform ART and stakeless tests, leads on reels for easy take-up, calibration standards and a large hard-pack carrying case.
Four-terminal ground testers can be used to perform soil resistivity tests as well as standard ground resistance tests. The DET4TC and DET4TCR join Megger’s DET4TD, DET3TD, DET3TA, DET3TC and DET2/2 as part of the most comprehensive family of three- and four-terminal ground resistance testers available anywhere.

Leviton Licenses Two-Way Communication Technology for
Wireless Home Control Networks
Leviton has licensed its industry-leading two-way communication protocol for Z-Wave™ wireless home control networks to leading-edge software developers and hardware manufacturers in the home automation field. Lagotek Corporation, ControlThink and HAI are among the first companies in the rapidly-expanding home controls market to integrate Leviton’s exclusive two-way, Z-Wave protocol into their own product offerings. Lagotek and ControlThink are home controls software platform providers. HAI is a manufacturer of home control devices.
Leviton’s two-way Z-Wave communications protocol actively indicates whether loads on a Z-Wave network are ON or OFF. This provides added convenience and flexibility to homeowners, especially when controlled loads are out of sight or reach. The distinctive two-way communication protocol makes it possible for homeowners to find out if a home’s security system is ON or OFF, or if the thermostat at a vacation home is running to maintain the house in the winter. Since these functions can be performed over the Internet, a cell phone, or PDA, homeowners can verify the status of any home system and make adjustments from anywhere in the world.
Leviton developed the advanced communication technology as one of the many features of its Vizia RF™ offering, a line of digital dimmers and switches with a full-function scene controller, zone-controller, appliance and lamp modules and remote controls that can be installed as a single, stand-alone lighting control network or as part of Z-Wave's larger “intelligent” network of controls for HVAC, access control, intruder and fire detection, appliance control and other home systems.
