Architectural Area Lighting (AAL) introduces the Venere™ Series
of wall sconces. Made of cast aluminum, each fixture in the series
features egress illumination, an integral secondary source for use
during power failures. Available in lines of contemporary and traditional
design styles, the aesthetically pleasing, wall-mounted fixtures
are designed to provide versatile, high-performance, exterior
lighting for the accentuation of doorways and building entrances.
Ideal for use in a variety of application settings, the Venere Series
offers multiple sconce decorative fascia designs and vast color options
for both the contemporary and traditional lines. Each sconce
design is available in six optical configurations including: up beam,
down beam, down beam/up spread, up beam/down spread, up
spread and down spread.
Sconces in the Venere Series are available in two sizes. The large
contemporary fixture measures 26.38” x 11.63”, while the small is
19.88” x 9.13”. The traditional fixtures measure 25.50” x 8.75” for
the large and 19.63” x 7.00” for the small. The sconces’ lens is composed
of semi translucent, injection-molded acrylic. Venere Series’
fixtures are designed to operate with either electronically ballasted
metal halide or compact fluorescent sources.
Standard with every Venere Series sconce is an MR 11 secondary
egress source designed to be operated as a remote head from an
emergency battery. If a power outage occurs, the sconce will provide
illumination to the path of egress from the building to the public way.

Lithium-Ion-Powered Four-Piece Combination Kit
Metabo Corporation has made its’ four-piece 18-volt cordless combination kit available with lithium-ion batteries. The kit includes a drill/driver, circular saw, reciprocating saw and flashlight.
Using Metabo’s LI-Power lithium-ion battery technology, these tools are lighter and run longer than with traditional NiCad batteries. The lithium-ion batteries utilize Metabo’s patented air-cooled battery charging system, which cools both the battery and the charger, and results in 30% faster charging and an increased service life of up to 1,500 charges.
The kit’s BSZ 18 cordless drill/driver provides up to 549 inch-lbs. of torque and is used for drilling, tapping and driving screws. It can drill up to 1/2” holes in mild steel and up to 1-3/16” holes in soft wood. The tool weighs 4.8 lbs., offers 20 torque settings and a drill setting, has forward and reverse modes, and an ergonomic, rubber-coated T-handle with a built-in clip that holds a screw driving bit. The drill/driver’s no-load speed is from 0-450 and 0-1450 RPMs.
Metabo’s KSAP 18 cordless, 6-1/2” circular saw is also available in the kit. Used for cutting off and ripping lumber up to 2-1/8” thick, the saw’s high-efficiency motor provides more cuts per battery charge than any saw in its class. The KSAP 18 bevel cuts up to 47° and features a safety lock switch, a noload speed of 2,500 RPM and an integrated dust extraction port that easily hooks up to a vacuum, minimizing cleanup time and dust inhalation. Its maximum cutting depth is 2-1/8” at 90° and 1-5/8” at 45° and it weighs only 10.4 pounds.
The ASE 18 cordless reciprocating saw offered in the kit allows access to difficult- to-reach locations and is ergonomically designed to reduce operator fatigue by minimizing vibration. The saw delivers 0 to 2,700 strokes per. The ASE 18 features Metabo’s Quick blade-changing system. Its adjustable shoe controls the length of the cut and lets operators use the entire length of the blade evenly, extending blade life. The 19-1/2” long saw weighs 7.7 pounds. The combination kit, which can still be purchased with NiCad batteries, also includes a flashlight, an AC30 Plus charger, two 18-volt 2.2 Ah Li-Power 20 batteries and a heavy duty carrying case.

Emerson Network Power Introduces Liebert XDK Rack Enclosure With Integrated Cooling for High Density Electronics
Emerson Network Power recently announced the availability of the Liebert XDK, a Knurr rack enclosure with integrated cooling capabilities. A product of Emerson’s recent acquisition of Knurr Inc., the 19” rack is now available in the United States and provides secure and reliable cooling for up to 17 kW of high-density electronics.
This first release of the Liebert XDK, which has been marketed in Europe as the Knurr CoolTherm®, utilizes water as the fluid to transport the heat out of the enclosure. It is a closed architecture solution utilizing air circulation internal to the enclosure that is completely sealed from room air and environmental conditions.
Server heat load is absorbed by the rack’s integrated cold water system through a high efficiency airto- water heat exchanger in the bottom of the rack.
This solution enables IT professionals to deploy blade servers and other high density heat load computing equipment without creating hot spots in their data centers. Redundant high-performance fans with temperature-dependent speed regulation drive closed loop air circulation in the rack’s interior, while servers are supplied with cold air at the front of the rack. The Liebert XDK can improve cooling system efficiency by up to 30% compared to traditional room cooling systems.
“Because it is independent from environmental conditions, the Liebert XDK gives data center managers greater power and cooling flexibility at the rack level while they adapt to design and demand changes in high-availability environments,” said Lennart Stahl, Liebert XD senior product manager at Emerson Network Power. “The closed architecture, waterbased system is ideal for high heat density applications where noise containment is another important requirement for the
computer room.”
Key to the performance and space saving of the Liebert XDK is the Liebert XDP pumping unit, also known as a coolant distribution unit (CDU). This unit delivers the critical control feature of maintaining the fluid temperature above the dew point to prevent condensation on the piping, coils and walls of the enclosure. Another key role of the Liebert XDP is to ensure isolation between the building chilled water system and the Liebert XDK.

Thomas & Betts Redesigns Connector for Conductor Termination in Confined Spaces
